The Plaza de Colon is seemingly one of the easily located plazas in the whole Spain because from the international airport of Madrid, the bus that you will be taking will drop you off at the plaza because the bus stop is situated in one of the underpasses of the Plaza de Colon.

When you are new in Madrid, finding this plaza will not be as difficult because the Columbus statue which is as high as the Bank of Spain is visibly seen from anywhere.  Besides that, going to this place will not require you to take a long ride.

Why you should see the Plaza de Colon?

Apart from the fact that this plaza has the Colon bus stop that is interestingly situated in one of the underpasses of the plaza the mere fact that some of the tourist spots like the cultural center of Madrid (the De La Villa de Madrid) is also being housed in one of the beneath sides of Plaza de Colon.

When you visit De Colon, you will instantly have a view of the grand fountain at the Columbus monument.  Many tourists and Madrid inhabitants are finding it rather difficult to communicate while in the Columbus monument of the noise produced by the massive waters cascading through the monument.

Many people who visit the Plaza de Colon have this belief that throwing coins on the cascading water shall allow you to have wishes granted. Although this is not something that many people believe in Madrid, there are still a few people who throw coins on the fountain and instantly make a wish.

What else can you see in the Plaza de Colon?

While on the Plaza de Colon, you can still enjoy many other beautiful tourist spots.  You can get to jog on the underpass Colon bus stop early in the morning enjoying the breeze cool of a windy Madrid or you can relax on the benches across the Columbus Monument.

The Plaza de Colon also has some of the more interesting tourist destinations in Madrid.  The other plaza which was built in honor to the great voyage that Columbus made is situated along the Columbus monument.  This plaza, when viewed from afar looks like a ship to most spectators.  The wide wings on the left and right side that this modern structure has carries that visual look.

The modern structure when looked at closely shall enable you to know that there were names that have been scribed on its base. These names, of course, bear historical significance to the people of Madrid.
