Madrid Palacio Real is the official residence of the King of Spain. Although the royal family does not live in this palace, they basically use this for official purposes such as state occasions.

What you should know when visiting Palacio Real?
It was built during the 18th and 19th centuries as a replacement to the medieval Alcazar that was burnt in 1794. The palace is decorated to the preferences of Charles III and is quite lavish.
If you prefer, you can just walk around the palace with its impressive and vast courtyard. You can see a breathtaking panoramic view of the countryside beyond the elegant iron fencing.

Entrance fee may costs around six euros for a normal ticket. A guided tour costs around 10 euro. The Royal Palace is quite accessible. It is only 5 minutes walk away from the Opera. It is also 15 minutes away from the Plaza Mayor.
Once you are inside the palace, flash photography is not allowed. Before you take pictures, you must make sure that your camera is in without flash mode or the guards will take away your camera.
The queue of tourists wanting to get inside the Royal Palace can become quite long. Try to have an early breakfast at your hotel and arrive early at the palace. The palace is open everyday except on occasions when the Royal family must use it for official purposes. The palace also closes early on Sundays at 2 PM.
Do you have children with you? Kids less than five years old do not have to pay the entrance fees. Students, old age pensioners, handicapper and school groups can avail of cheaper rates. The Royal Palace also showcases art exhibitions at no extra costs.
